Background and Verification Checks

What You Should Know

CarePii Nepal offers background checks as part of its caregiver eligibility screening process. All caregivers may be required to complete a background check to interact with families. Care Seekers can also order background checks on caregivers before hiring.

Background checks may include verification of criminal history, driving records, and civil records. However, these checks depend on the information provided by the caregiver, and their accuracy can be affected by reporting delays and data limitations. We recommend Care Seekers follow additional vetting steps before making a hiring decision.

CarePii Nepal may review the information obtained through background checks and take necessary actions, including terminating an account, if safety concerns arise. We prioritize trust and safety while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations in Nepal.

Details of Background Checks

Criminal Records Check

This check investigates a person’s criminal history through court records, police databases, and other official sources. It typically reveals convictions, pending charges, and sometimes dismissed cases depending on jurisdiction. The scope can vary from county-level to state or national searches. These checks help identify potentially dangerous individuals and protect vulnerable populations like children or elderly care recipients.

Criminal+ MVR Records Check

This comprehensive package combines both criminal background and motor vehicle record checks for a more complete risk assessment. It’s especially valuable for positions requiring both personal interaction and driving responsibilities, providing a broader picture of a candidate’s history and potential risk factors in multiple domains.

Continuous Background Checks

Unlike one-time screenings, this ongoing monitoring system alerts employers to new issues that arise after initial hiring. The system regularly scans court records, motor vehicle databases, and other sources for new entries. This approach helps maintain safety standards throughout employment, catching problems that might develop later rather than just pre-employment concerns.

Employment or Education Verification

This verification confirms the accuracy of a candidate’s claimed work history or educational credentials. For employment, it typically verifies job titles, dates of employment, and sometimes performance information. For education, it confirms degrees, diplomas, certifications, and attendance dates. This helps prevent qualification fraud and ensures caregivers have the experience or training they claim.

Reference Check

This process involves contacting previous employers, colleagues, or personal references to verify information and gather insights about character and performance. Professional references can confirm work habits, skills, and reliability, while personal references might speak to character, trustworthiness, and interpersonal skills. These checks help evaluate qualities that don’t appear on paper records.

Social Media Check

This review examines a candidate’s public social media profiles and online presence for potentially concerning content or behavior. It may assess professionalism, character, and judgment through posts, comments, photos, and other online activity. This check helps identify red flags like discriminatory views, violent tendencies, substance abuse, or other inappropriate behavior that might affect caregiving responsibilities.

Sex Offender Registry Check

This specialized search screens individuals against national and local sex offender registries. It identifies if a candidate appears on any public sex offender database due to previous convictions for sexual offenses. This check is particularly crucial for caregivers working with vulnerable populations such as children, elderly, or disabled individuals. The registry typically provides information on the nature of the offense, date of conviction, and registration status.

Drug and Alcohol Testing

This screening detects the presence of substances such as alcohol, illegal drugs, or misused prescription medications in a candidate’s system. Testing methods may include urine, hair, blood, or saliva samples. For caregiving positions requiring alertness, sound judgment, and reliable behavior, substance screening helps ensure care recipients’ safety and well-being. Both pre-employment and random testing options are available to maintain ongoing compliance.

Medical Fitness Certificate (specialized for Travel Care Category)

This certification specifically required for Travel Care providers verifies that a caregiver is physically and mentally fit to perform essential job functions, especially those involving travel with clients. The assessment typically includes evaluations of physical capability, absence of communicable diseases, immunization status, and mental health stability. This ensures caregivers can safely manage the unique demands of accompanying clients during travel, including potential emergencies or extended periods away from medical facilities.

Professional Certificate Verification

This verification process confirms the authenticity and current validity of professional licenses, certifications, or specialized training credentials claimed by caregivers. It involves direct contact with issuing institutions, regulatory bodies, or certification boards to verify issuance dates, expiration status, and whether any disciplinary actions exist against the credential. This ensures caregivers possess the legitimate qualifications required for specialized care roles such as nursing, therapy, or other regulated caregiving positions.

Background checks are not always 100% accurate and may not reveal a person’s complete history. If you have concerns or need further verification, please contact CarePii Nepal for guidance.

Note: Background checks require a processing fee and may take 1 to 2 weeks to complete.

Care Providers Can Order or Authorize Background Checks

Carepii Nepal offers background check services for both Care Providers and Care Seekers.

A completed background check may be indicated on a Care Provider’s profile, but detailed results are shared only with authorized parties. A background check badge will be displayed on the Care Provider’s profile image upon completion.

Note: Background checks are subject to a service fee. The process typically takes 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the type of check requested.

Background Checks for Non-Registered Individuals

Carepii Nepal offer background checks on caregivers who are not registered on the platform. These checks follow the same process and privacy standards as those for registered users.

Background checks for non-registered individuals also require a service fee and may take up to 2 weeks for completion.

Ongoing Verification of Identity and Credentials

Carepii Nepal reserves the right to verify the identity and credentials of Care Providers and Care Seekers regularly using third-party services. This process aims to maintain the platform’s safety and integrity.

Verification checks may include national databases, watch lists, and other reliable sources. Users must ensure their information is accurate, as discrepancies may impact their account status.

Limitations of Background Checks – Carepii Nepal

CarePii Nepal utilizes third-party vendors to conduct background checks with varying levels of comprehensiveness. However, it is important to understand that background checks have inherent limitations due to factors such as legal restrictions, reporting system inconsistencies, and human error.

  1. Legal and Regional Restrictions: The depth of a background check depends on the availability of records and legal frameworks in Nepal. Certain criminal records may not be accessible due to privacy laws, outdated record-keeping systems, or government policies restricting the disclosure of certain types of offenses. Additionally, some jurisdictions may limit how far back a background check can report criminal activity.
  2. Gaps in Criminal Record Databases: Background check reports are generated based on the information provided by national and local databases. However, these databases may not always be up-to-date, comprehensive, or consistent across different regions. Some records may be delayed in reporting or not included due to inefficiencies in law enforcement or judicial systems.
  3. Accuracy of Information provided by Candidates: Background checks rely on the personal information provided by the individual being screened, such as name, date of birth, and address. If incorrect or incomplete details are given, the accuracy of the background check may be compromised, potentially leading to false-positive or false-negative results.
  4. Limited Access to International Records: If a candidate has lived or worked outside Nepal, obtaining international criminal records, employment history, or other verification details can be challenging. Some countries restrict the sharing of such information, and delays in data retrieval may occur.
  5. Potential Errors in Reporting: Background checks involve both automated systems and manual processing, which increases the possibility of errors. Misidentifications, outdated records, incomplete case information, and data entry mistakes can impact the accuracy of the final report. Additionally, court closures, restricted database access, or technical issues may result in incomplete searches.

Recommendation for Care Seekers

CarePii Nepal strongly recommends that background checks be used as part of a broader screening process. Employers and families should conduct in-depth interviews, verify references, review social media activity, and obtain official identification documents before making a hiring decision. Continuous monitoring and periodic re-evaluations of caregivers are also encouraged to ensure long-term safety and reliability.

While CarePii Nepal strives to provide thorough background verification, no screening process can guarantee complete accuracy. We urge all care seekers to exercise due diligence and take multiple precautionary measures when selecting a caregiver.

All background checks require a service fee and typically take 1 to 2 weeks to complete. For more details on pricing, please contact CarePii Nepal.
